Where Do We Come From?

1970
Butler & Young were formed as Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Consultants.
1992
The company formed a Building Control and Fire Safety Consultancy Division. The contracts obtained at this time were with various government departments, which included term contracts with the then Lord Chancellors Department (now known as The Court Service); HM Customs and Excise; Crown Prosecution Service; Benefits Agency Estates; and the Employment Service in Scotland.
1996
The Building Control and Fire Consultancy Division was made independent of Butler & Young Associates and was incorporated as a limited company.
1997
Butler & Young Limited were appointed as one of the first Approved Inspectors for all building types by the Office of the Department for Communities and Local Government (formerly ODPM & DETR).
2004
The company was restructured creating a holding company called the BYL Group, which is responsible for a group of five companies, namely Butler & Young Limited; Trenton Fire Limited; BYL (Construction Consultants) Limited; Butler & Young (Scotland) Limited; and BYL Training Limited.
2007
The Group was renamed the Butler & Young Group Limited and two individual companies, namely Butler & Young Limited and Trenton Consultants Limited, were placed within a single company.
