We are delighted to announce our partnership with Lewes Football Club, where Butler & Young Group will be sponsoring Lewes Football Club’s Boys and Girls Academies for the next two years.
Within a pioneering two-year sponsorship package, the company will also offer bursary placement schemes in the construction industry for two academy students who wish to pursue practical, long-term careers outside of their burgeoning football careers. This initiative is one of the first of its kind within the football industry.
Chief Operating Officer of the Butler & Young Group, Terry O’Neil said;
“The Butler & Young Group are delighted to enter into a partnership with Lewes Football Club to support the Club’s exciting vision for the future. This is the first sponsorship scheme of its kind that not only provides support to the Academy team in terms of sporting excellence but also supports player career development in the construction industry. It is hoped that other likeminded companies will join us in sponsoring individual players in the career path of their choice.”
Chief Executive of Lewes Football Club Kevin Miller said;
“In an age where it is increasingly difficult for young people to develop long lasting careers in any kind of trade or industry, this fantastic initiative with the Butler & Young Group reaffirms everything that Lewes Football Club stands for. As a fan-owned community club we are striving to provide pathways to success for all of our teams — as much as within the general community that we serve — so we are very grateful to Terry and his team for sharing in our vision and creating the conditions to support our future first Men’s and Ladies team players in such an innovative way.”
Head of the Lewes Football Club Boys Academy Jay Lovett said;
“Working in partnership with the Butler & Young Group will help provide further needs for our Academy players. University might not always be the next step in their careers or in their education and so this partnership has the potential to help provide them with a recognisable, practical, hands-on trade that will stay with them for the rest of their lives, way beyond their potential football careers. As the Head of the Lewes Football Club Academy it’s an honour to welcome a Company that has the same vision as the club in developing young people in life and their careers.”
About the Lewes FC Academy
The Lewes FC Boys Football Academy is a two-year, full-time Education and Football Development programme (first started September 2012) delivered by Lewes Football Club in partnership with Essential Sports Training Ltd. www.essentialsports.co.uk
The Academy offers the NVQ Level 3 and the BTEC Level 3 National Sports diplomas. The extended paper is the equivalent of three A* A-Levels, providing enough UCAS points to go on to university.
The Academy is a great way of combining a practical qualification, including the FA Level 1 and Level 2 Coaching certificates, with top-level football coaching. Besides lessons each day, players will train for up to 12 hours per week under the Lewes Academy Manager, Jay Lovett, a Uefa ‘A’ Licence coach, and his team of highly qualified Uefa ‘B’ coaches, including a dedicated goalkeeper coach.
The Academy team plays in the strongest youth league available, the FA Youth Cup and the Conference Youth Alliance Cup (a national competition). If players work hard and have football talent, they might follow some of the recent Academy graduates into the Lewes FC first team and even on to professional League contracts. In the 2015/16 season, three youth team players have progressed into the first team and two others have already signed professional forms with Brighton & Hove Albion and Crystal Palace.
