BCA Provides Building Regula3ons Minister with New Research

The Building Control Alliance has presented two new research reports to Building Regula>ons Minister, Andrew Stunell. Both are studies of Building Control ac>vity in England & Wales covering the work of Local Authority Building Control and Associa>on of Consultant Approved Inspectors members.

This research project was planned and run jointly by LABC and ACAI through the Building Control Alliance.

Its objective was to establish the level of compliance actions undertaken by all Building Control Bodies (BCBs) both public and private sector. This objective was set because commentators and organisations with their own commercial agendas are always using ad hoc anecdotes to say that “enforcement” isn’t happening. In the sense that “enforcement” means prosecutions, this may appear to be so. But in reality, building control surveyors use their powers to achieve compliance through several phases of projects. Feedback and instructions to designers, contractors, builders and their teams are recorded and are there for follow up – if required.
